Your Champion Wine & Food Matches
What would you match with the 2010 Air New Zealand Wine Awards Champion Wine of the Show?
Our mouths were salivating picking the tastiest food matches in our recent competition. Our winners would serve the following scrumptious meals with the award winning Peregrine Central Otago Pinot Noir 2009.
A Goemaere, of Brightwater, chose venison steak with cranberry sauce, served with homemade potato croquettes and a green salad.
Crisp roasted pork hocks with caramalised onion gravy are on the menu for A Williamson of New Lynn, Auckland.
For those vegetarians, Tauranga's C O'Donnell believes falafel patties and green salad would be a great match.
T Cranston, of West Harbour, Waitakere, suggested serving a good old roast rack of NZ lamb, potatoes dauphinoise and spring vegetables in thyme butter.
Including wine in your cooking can prove very flavoursome. In Christchurch, R Harrison is matching Peregrine Pinot Noir with mushroom dusted seared yellow fin tuna on braised sauerkraut with pinot noir jus and a drizzle of mustard cream.
D Hagberg, of Papamoa, recommended duck breasts, braised baby cos and speck with roasted beetroot.
All in all, choosing the winners made us very hungry. Congratulations to our winners. We hope you enjoy your twin packs of Gold Medal winning wine for your efforts.
